Work Confidently with
Neurodivergent & Aphantasic Clients
Discover how to adapt hypnosis to the way your client actually thinks, processes language and experiences their inner world.
Dr Paulina Trevena
PhD in Social Sciences
Founder of Aphantasia World, international keynote speaker, and specialist in neurodivergence and hypnosis.
Taught by Dr Paulina Trevena — UK Hypnosis Convention speaker (2023–2026), HypnoThoughts Live Las Vegas speaker, European Society of Hypnosis Congress speaker (Glasgow 2026), founder of Aphantasia World, and the leading voice bringing aphantasia and neurodivergent awareness into the global hypnotherapy community.
The Moment Your
Script Stops Working
You ask your client to picture a beach, a golden light or a favourite place. They do their best to follow the instructions but nothing happens — they can’t ‘see’ anything! They wonder what they are doing wrong, while you wonder why the induction isn’t working.
Or your client is neurodivergent and may process language very literally, get overwhelmed by an unstructured process, or simply not respond the way the textbook says they should. You improvise. It half-works. You both quietly wonder if hypnosis “isn’t for them.”
Here’s what most hypnosis training never tells you: clients differ widely in how they imagine, focus, process language and experience their inner world. Some cannot visualise or access other internal senses. Others process information differently because of ADHD, autism and other neurodivergent profiles.
A substantial proportion of clients in your chair are minds that mainstream, one-size-fits-all hypnosis training simply didn’t prepare you for.
“Your neurodivergent client isn’t the problem. But your technique might be.”
A Masterclass Built Around
How Your Client Actually Thinks
This is not a training in new scripts. It’s a training in exploring how the person in front of you thinks — so you can adapt your language, inductions, metaphors and process to fit them, instead of hoping they’ll fit a fixed protocol.
Understanding Neurodivergent Minds in Therapy
Neurodivergent clients often experience the world, emotions, learning and communication differently, yet many therapeutic approaches assume a single “typical” way of thinking.
Core Learning Focus:
You will explore:
- / How neurodivergence — including ADHD, autism and related cognitive differences — shapes the therapeutic relationship
- / Recognising cognitive and communication patterns in the therapy chair
- / Adapting language to bypass misunderstandings and literal processing
- / Tailoring therapy dynamically to the individual rather than forcing a one-size-fits-all model
Beyond Visualisation: When ‘Picture This’ Isn’t the Way
Clients vary considerably in how they experience and use mental imagery. Some cannot or hardly experience imagery — they have aphantasia — while for others it is inconsistent or difficult to access. Even clients who can visualise may find imagery-based techniques unhelpful, distracting or emotionally inaccessible.
Core Learning Focus:
Through research, live demos, and practical peer exercises:
- / Explore how differences in imagination affect memory, emotional processing and learning
- / Assess and map a client’s sensory profile and imagery capacity
- / Transform standard visualisation-based protocols into somatic, sensory and conceptual inductions
- / Apply non-visual hypnotic engagement with real confidence
What You’ll Walk Away With
A clear, practical understanding of neurodivergence, aphantasia and differences in human cognition and imagination
A structured way to explore how an individual client thinks, communicates, remembers and processes experience
The ability to adapt your language, inductions, suggestions, metaphors and therapeutic processes to fit the client in front of you
Greater flexibility and less dependence on fixed scripts or standardised techniques
More confidence working with neurodivergent and aphantasic clients — and with any client who doesn’t respond well to conventional approaches
Concrete Clinical Tools Included
You’ll also leave with concrete tools: a framework for exploring a client’s internal experience, a practical assessment of mental imagery and cognitive preferences, non-visual techniques of hypnotic engagement, and a decision-making process for when your usual approach isn’t working.
Who This
Training Is For
Designed primarily for qualified hypnotherapists who already have a basic grounding in hypnosis and want to work more confidently and effectively with clients whose minds work differently. It’s also valuable for psychotherapists, coaches and other practitioners who use visualisation, guided imagery or NLP techniques.
Prerequisites & Prior Knowledge
You should already be trained in hypnotherapy, psychotherapy, a related therapeutic field, or coaching.
No prior knowledge of aphantasia or neurodivergence is required — but because the practical elements focus on adapting hypnosis specifically, participants without hypnosis training may not be able to apply every part directly.
This training bridges cutting-edge cognitive research with immediate hands-on clinical adaptability.

Meet Dr Paulina Trevena
Hypnotherapist, Researcher, Educator & International Trainer
Dr Paulina Trevena is a hypnotherapist, researcher, educator and trainer specialising in aphantasia, neurodivergence and inclusive approaches to hypnosis. Before becoming a hypnotherapist, she spent 20 years in academic and applied social research and holds a PhD in Social Sciences.
Her work brings together rigorous research evidence, lived experience of congenital aphantasia and ADHD, and deep clinical experience supporting aphantasic and neurodivergent clients in private practice.
She is a regular speaker at major hypnosis conferences — including the UK Hypnosis Convention (2023, 2024, 2025, and again in 2026), HypnoThoughts Live in Las Vegas, and the European Society of Hypnosis Congress in Glasgow (2026) — and is the founder of Aphantasia World, an international community for people with aphantasia and the professionals who work with them.
“This is Dr Trevena’s first in-person training combining both subjects — providing more time for live demonstrations, practical exercises, discussion and direct feedback than any version she’s offered before.”
What Makes This Different
This training brings together three perspectives rarely combined in one room: lived experience of congenital aphantasia and neurodivergence, an academic researcher’s grip on evidence, and hands-on clinical experience as a hypnotherapist.
Dr Trevena’s own difficulty accessing “standard” hypnosis led her to research why foolproof therapeutic approaches so often fail people whose minds work differently.
Her approach goes far beyond simply swapping visual language for another sense. It examines how differences in cognition and imagination shape communication, attention, memory, emotion and the client’s whole experience of therapy.

What Hypnotherapists Say About
Training with Dr Trevena
As this is the first in-person edition combining both subjects, these comments come from practitioners who attended Dr Trevena’s previous training, workshops and conference presentations.
“I am a clinical hypnotherapist and had the pleasure of seeing Dr Paulina Trevena speak at the UK Hypnosis Convention 2025. Her presentation about Aphantasia was excellent. I attended her course today and felt it was incredibly well presented. I have come away with far more knowledge and confidence than I had before. I cannot recommend her training highly enough.”
Angela Cain
Clinical Hypnotherapist
“Thanks to a training that Paulina gives on aphantasia, I not only understand myself better, but I also have a much broader insight into the phenomenon — which helps me as a hypnotherapist to better know which tools to use to help clients with aphantasia. The training was very helpful and valuable and I think it should be included in every hypnotherapist training program. I can very much recommend Paulina as a trainer.”
Monique Schrage
Hypnotherapy Practitioner
“My biggest takeaways, as a regression therapist and hyperphantasic person, were to hold the image in my mind of an aphantasic client experiencing induction without a screen. I also appreciate that Paulina stressed there is no cookie-cutter way of working with aphantasics. It is important for hypnotherapists and regression therapists to recognize that there are people who cannot visualize at all, not even a little.”
Peggy Schick
Regression Therapist
“I did a day of being trained by Paulina, learning about aphantasia. Highly recommended if you want to be an inclusive therapist. Paulina is a great communicator and the course was perfectly pitched.”
Tim Arbuckle
Therapist & Coach
“As a fellow hypnotherapist I found Paulina’s excellent tips and strategies for what works well for clients with aphantasia very useful. I am more aware now what aphantasia is and how best to adapt my style to support the client. I feel more confident now asking potential clients sooner about their ability to visualise, rather than a trial-and-error experience. Anyone who is a hypnotherapist or teaches hypnotherapy would benefit from learning more.”
Deborah Craig
Hypnotherapist & Educator
“As Hypnotherapist I found Paulina’s workshop very informative and I would definitely use what I have learnt in my practice.”
Farnoosh Kovily-Minozzi
Hypnotherapist

Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Do I need experience with aphantasia or neurodivergence already?
No. No previous knowledge is required — just a grounding in hypnotherapy, psychotherapy, a related therapeutic field, or coaching.
Q. What if I’m not trained in hypnosis?
You can still attend if you work in a related field such as coaching, psychotherapy or NLP. However, because the practical elements focus specifically on adapting hypnosis, you may not be able to apply every part of the training directly without a hypnosis background.
Q. Can I attend online instead of in person?
Livestream booking becomes available once 8 people have booked and paid for the in-person day — we need practitioners in the room before we can stream the sessions live, so this option isn’t bookable until that threshold is reached. Check back closer to the date, or register early to guarantee your participation.
Q. What if the livestream never opens up?
The full two-day training is recorded either way, so you can still get complete access to watch afterwards — even if the in-person threshold for a live stream isn’t reached.
Q. What if I can’t make it live?
The full training is recorded, so you can rewatch and review at your own pace — whether you attended in person or via livestream.
Q. Does this qualify me to diagnose neurodivergent conditions?
No. The training helps you adapt the delivery of therapy — it does not qualify you to diagnose or treat neurodevelopmental conditions.
Q. Do I get a certificate?
Yes — a certificate of completion issued by Dr Paulina Trevena through Aphantasia World, confirming the hours of professional training completed.
Q. Can I use what I learn with my own clients?
Yes. You may use the practical tools, techniques and designated client-facing materials in your own one-to-one client work. The training manual and teaching materials remain Dr Trevena’s intellectual property and may not be copied, shared, resold, or used to train other practitioners without written permission.
Your Neurodivergent Client
Isn’t the Problem.
But your technique might be. Learn to adapt hypnosis to the person, not the other way around.
